MORE EXERCISES ON GRAMMAR
I. Give the correct form of the verbs in brackets.
Three weeks ago my parents and I (went) to Cirebon (to see) my grandfather who (had been) ill for a
week. After we (drive) for about three hours, we (saw) a car (caming) from the opposite direction
( hit ) a tree.
My father, (is) a doctor, (asked) me (stop) to (see) if they (needed) medical help. Miraculously,
although the car (had badly damaged), nobody (seriously injured). The three persons—a man, a
woman, and a girl—of the (wrecked) car (had been already be) out of the car when we (approached) them. My
mother (offered) them a drink but they (refused) (saying) that they (were fasting).
“We (accept) it if we (not fasting). We know we (need) it (to calm) us down,” the woman
(explain)ed and then (cried) softly.
The man (thanked) us for (stopping) and ( helping) them. He, then, (introduced) himself. He (said)
that his name (was) Budi Santoso. (Holding) the woman and (pointing) to the girl who (was standing) near him,
he (say), “This (is) my wife, and that (is) my daughter, Susi.”
A few minutes later, a police patrol car (came). Two policemen (got out) out of the car and
one of them (asked) us what (had happen). Mr. Santoso (explain) that he (ride) for seven hours, and
that he (must have fallen) a sleep when he (hit) the tree.
“How fast (have you drive) then?” The same policemen (asking) (taking) out a mall note book from
his pocket.
